I have to fly in the morning and I have a nasty sinus infection. Last time I had this happen I thought I was going to die during the landing (due to pressure change?). Does anyone have any suggestions to help minimize this problem?

I've busted my ear drum before and I will tell you it isn't fun, but it wasn't from landing on a plane. The best thing to do is try chewing on some gum or candy. You can do this while in flight as well, to reduce pressure while you are flying. It is also a good idea to take some medicine before you get on board. If you can pick your seats ahead of time, get as close to the front of the plane as possible. Sitting closer to the engine will make this worse, I've spent entire vacations where my ears were hurting and wouldn't pop because I got stuck back by the engine. If at all possible, book first class, trust me it helps!

Yeah I've a similar problem n get teriible earache when the cabin decompresses on takeoff/landing. But I pop some hard boiled candy/ lozenges into my mouth n suck hard onto them when the plane's started to taxy. also plug ur ears well with cotton swabs.

Get gum, or do the motion with your jaw as if you were chewing gum, get the little things they sell in airports to reduce the sound and you put them in your ears.

try a good decongestant before you board?? It may relieve some pressure in your sinuses. A quick call to your doctor might be advisable, too.

what you can try to do is to move your jaw from right to left several times that can sometimes help to decompress
